Canon Pixma MP780 all-in-one Photo has much in common with Canon Pixma iP4000, which is our editor's choice at this time for a personal ink jet printer (February 2005). Built around the same engine, MP780 designed for photo printing, with five inks are pigment-based black cover for standard printing dye-based black sert for the photos. More significantly, it offers the same fast performance as the iP4000 and offers high quality output. It even includes a PictBridge connector, so you can print directly from the camera.

As AIO, MP780 is able to work as a color scanner and standalone fax machine and also photocopying, and comes with a driver Fax, so you can do a fax from most programs. It has no Fax utility, however, which means that you cannot send a Fax from your computer except by sending a document from within another program. A typical setup for AIO connecting with USB 2.0, except for the minor annoyance of routine registration you cannot terminate or pass through easily. Canon says this problem will be corrected as the updated installation disc works the way through distribution pipelines.
